“Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”
– Rumi
Happy Thursday,
I've been wondering what to write about, so it's taken me a couple of weeks to come out with a new Yogi Note.
I think this one's a good un ☺️
Let's talk about intuition, how yoga not only teaches us to stretch, strengthen, and breathe, but also to tune in to the quieter, wiser parts of ourselves. The parts that don’t shout, but gently nudge. The parts that already know what we need physically, emotionally, energetically, even when our mind is spinning with uncertainty.
And the beautiful thing is, the more we practice, the easier it becomes to hear that voice.
Yoga as a Practice of Inner Listening
On the surface, it might look like we’re doing yoga to follow instructions, place the foot here, lift the arm there, inhale, exhale. But underneath all of that, there’s a more subtle invitation happening: Tune in. Trust yourself. Come home.
The breath becomes our guide. Sensation becomes our feedback. Stillness becomes our space to hear what’s really going on beneath the surface. And slowly, we start moving in a way that’s led not by ego or expectation, but by intuition and honesty.
This is what it means to listen to your inner teacher. And truthfully? That teacher is always with you, on and off the mat.
Svadhyaya – The Yogic Practice of Self-Study
In yoga philosophy, we have this beautiful concept called Svadhyaya, which roughly translates to self-study. But it’s more than journaling or reflecting. It’s the practice of observing yourself with curiosity, not judgment. It’s asking, “What am I feeling right now?” or “What is my body trying to tell me?” and then actually pausing long enough to listen.
Let go of expectations that something should be a certain way and listen to your inner guide that resides beyond the ego.
Through Svadhyaya, we learn to trust our felt experience. To acknowledge that our bodies, breath, and emotions are offering clues all the time. The question is: are we listening?
Trusting Your Intuition (Even When It’s Inconvenient)
Sometimes intuition doesn’t make logical sense. It might say, “rest today” when your schedule says “power through.” It might encourage you to take a gentler version of a pose, to breathe a little deeper, or to linger in stillness when everyone else has moved on.
And that’s okay. That’s yoga too.
In fact, one of the most empowering parts of the practice is when you realise that you don’t need permission to honour what you need. Whether that’s modifying a pose, skipping a flow, or lying in Savasana for the entire class (yes, really), your yoga is yours. Always.
Letting Yoga Spill Off the Mat
The more we practice listening on the mat, the more we build trust in our decisions off the mat, too. Intuition isn’t just about yoga, it shows up when we say no to something that doesn’t feel right, when we take a leap into something new, when we pause instead of react. It’s inner wisdom guiding us toward alignment and authenticity.
So if you’ve been feeling a little out of touch with yourself lately, that’s okay. Come back to the mat. Close your eyes. Breathe. Listen. Trust what arises. The answers might not shout, but they’re always there waiting for you to hear them.
💛 Let’s keep listening.

Restorative Yoga Workshop
Your beloved 2 hours of restorative yoga is back on the last Sunday of June.
Restorative yoga is a completely different experience from most other styles of yoga. Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures over the course of the session. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasises the meditative aspect of yoga, the union of body and mind. Through the use of props for support, many of the postures are held almost effortlessly.
Head here to book your sessions and join Tash for a restful evening of deep relaxation.
