Your Yogi Note: Energetic Clearing – Releasing Stagnant Energy Through Yoga 🌿

“When you let go, you create space for something better.” – Unknown

Happy Groundhog day lol, yup it's Thursday again, ALREADY! And April is just around the corner 😭...I mean, that's just ridiculous!

Meanwhile, I had a fantastic response to last week's Yogi Note, it definitely resonated with quite a few of you, so after exploring the surprising effects of emotional release in yoga last time, let’s take it a step further.

What happens after those emotions surface? How do we move through them and create space for fresh, vibrant energy?

The answer lies in energetic clearing, a practice of releasing what no longer serves us so we can feel lighter, clearer, and more aligned with our true selves.

Just as we cleanse our physical spaces, sweeping away dust, opening windows, and freshening the air, we must also clear our energetic space. Yoga offers powerful tools to release stagnant energy, emotional heaviness, and mental fog, leaving us feeling renewed, balanced, and at ease.

First of all what is energy in relation to our human selves?

Aside from Prana (Sanskrit), Chi/Qi (Chinese), here are other terms used across different traditions to describe energy or life force:

🔹 Ki (Japanese) – Used in Reiki and martial arts, referring to the flow of vital energy in the body.
🔹 Ruach (Hebrew) – Meaning “breath” or “spirit,” representing the divine life force.
🔹 Mana (Polynesian/Hawaiian) – A spiritual power or force that permeates the universe.
🔹 Baraka (Arabic) – A sacred, divine energy or blessing that flows through people and places.
🔹 Sekhem (Ancient Egyptian) – Meaning “power” or “might,” referring to an energetic life force.
🔹 Ojas (Ayurvedic/Sanskrit) – The subtle energy of vitality and immunity, considered the essence of life.
🔹 Tejas (Sanskrit) – The radiant energy or fire element that governs transformation.
🔹 Orgone (Wilhelm Reich’s Theory) – A conceptual energy field thought to pervade the universe.
🔹 Etheric Energy (Metaphysical) – A term used in spiritual teachings for subtle, unseen energy in the aura.
🔹 Vital Force (Western Esotericism & Homeopathy) – Refers to the life-giving energy that maintains health and balance.
🔹 Lung (Tibetan Buddhism) – The wind energy that moves through the channels in the body, linked to the mind.

Each of these concepts reflects a universal recognition that energy is the essence of life, moving within us and around us in different ways. 🌿✨

Let’s explore how movement, breath, and intention can clear the energetic clutter and restore flow within us.

What is Energetic Stagnation?

Have you ever felt weighed down, stuck, or emotionally heavy without a clear reason why? That’s energetic stagnation; a buildup of unresolved emotions, stress, and tension stored in the body.

This can manifest as:

🔹 Feeling drained or unmotivated
🔹 A sense of heaviness in the body or mind
🔹 Recurring negative thought patterns
🔹 Physical tightness in the chest, hips, or shoulders
🔹 Difficulty focusing or feeling creatively blocked

Just like a river that becomes clogged with debris, our energy needs to flow to remain vibrant and healthy.

The good news?

We have the ability to clear, move, and realign our energy through intentional practice.

Yoga Practices for Energetic Clearing

Movement: Shake, Flow & Release
Yoga is one of the most powerful ways to move energy through the body. When we flow through asanas, we’re not just stretching muscles, we’re releasing emotional and energetic residue stored within us.

  • Shaking & Free Movement – Before stepping into structured asana, take a moment to shake out the body. Stand tall, loosen your limbs, and gently bounce or shake. This primal movement helps dislodge stagnant energy and awakens your system.
  • Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) – Flowing through Sun Salutations warms the body, clears blocked energy, and revitalizes your system. Move with intention, imagining each breath sweeping away any stuck emotions.
  • Twists & Hip Openers – Twisting postures detoxify by wringing out the spine, while hip openers like Pigeon Pose release deeply held tension.

Breathwork: Clearing Through Pranayama
Our breath is one of the fastest ways to shift energy. If emotions or heaviness feel stuck, pranayama can act like an energetic “reset button,” clearing the mind and nervous system.

Intention: Setting & Releasing
Energy follows intention. By setting a clear intention for release, we invite a conscious clearing of what no longer serves us.

  • Before your practice, take a moment to sit in stillness. Place your hands on your heart and ask: What am I ready to release? What energy no longer aligns with me?
  • Visualize exhaling stagnant energy and inhaling clarity and light.
  • At the end of your practice, seal your intention with gratitude, knowing that clearing creates space for new possibilities.

Sound & Vibrational Clearing
The vibration of sound can also break up and move stagnant energy. Try:
- Chanting “Om” at the start or end of your practice to reset your energy.
- Listening to Tibetan bowls or nature sounds to bring harmony to your space.
- Sighing deeply during practice, this simple act is an instinctual way to release tension.

If you are curious about the power of sound and humming look up The Humming Effect Book by Jonathan and Andi Goldman.

Creating an Ongoing Clearing Ritual

Energetic clearing isn’t just for when we feel stuck, it’s something we can weave into our daily or weekly routine to maintain balance.

Morning Reset – A few rounds of Kapalabhati or Sun Salutations to start the day with clarity and vitality.
Post-Practice Reflection – Journaling after yoga to acknowledge what emotions surfaced and what felt released.
Space Clearing – Burn sage, palo santo, or use essential oils to refresh your physical space, your environment holds energy, too!
Moon Cycle Clearing – Align with the natural cycles, use the Full Moon for release and the New Moon for setting new intentions.

Embrace the Lightness of Clearing

When we take time to release and clear, we create space for fresh energy, new inspiration, and deeper alignment. Just as we wouldn’t let dust collect in our homes, let’s make a practice of clearing the mind, body, and spirit so that we can move forward lighter, freer, and more connected to ourselves.

So the next time you feel heavy, stuck, or stagnant, instead of pushing through, pause, breathe, and clear. Trust that in letting go, you are making room for something new to flow in.

Restorative Yoga Workshop

Your beloved 2 hours of restorative yoga is back in April and June.

Restorative yoga is a completely different experience than most other styles of yoga. Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures over the course of the session. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga—the union of body and mind. Through the use of props for support, many of the postures are held almost effortlessly.

Head here to book your sessions and join Tash for a restful evening of deep relaxation.

Sound Bath!

Professional Background
What inspired you to start teaching yoga?
I spontaneously joined a teacher training with a friend when I first started practising yoga, and I’ve loved it ever since. It gave me a sense of balance and clarity that I wanted to share.
How long have you been practising and teaching yoga?
I’ve been practising for nine years and teaching for nearly as long, on and off.
What styles of yoga do you teach or love practising the most?
I love Yin Yoga and Slow Flow, gentle, grounding, and deeply nourishing styles. I also enjoy incorporating sound healing to enhance relaxation and presence.
What’s your teaching philosophy or approach to yoga?
I want yoga to be something everyone can enjoy. My goal is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported in class. I believe yoga is for everybody, and I aim to make the practice accessible to all. My focus is on connecting breath with movement and promoting self-exploration.
What’s your favourite yoga pose and why?
Triangle Pose. There’s something about how expansive and grounding it feels at the same time that I absolutely love. It gives a sense of balance, strength, and openness.
What’s the one thing you want students to take away from your classes?
A feeling of relaxation and empowerment.
Personal Insights
What’s something unique about your yoga journey or practice?
I worked with an Ayurvedic doctor, which has deeply influenced my practice. I try to tune into what I need in the moment rather than following a rigid routine. Ayurveda has helped me see yoga as a tool for balance, where movement and stillness shift with the seasons, energy levels, and personal well-being.
Go-to ways to unwind outside of yoga?
Crocheting, watching a good series, and getting lost in a book.
Morning or evening routine that keeps you grounded?
Waking up, showering, and enjoying a mate with a book or podcast.
Favourite way to incorporate mindfulness into daily life?
Taking a small moment before bed to stretch and move my body as a way to reconnect and check in with how I’m feeling at the end of the day.
Fun & Quirky
If you could invite any three people (alive or historical) to a yoga class, who would they be and why?
I’d invite Bess Prescott for her thoughtful, philosophy-driven approach to yoga, Eelco Topper (Felbm) for his warm, flowing sound that naturally complements movement and breath, and Alice Coltrane for her deep, spiritual energy (imagine ending class with a savasana to her harp improvisations). It would be a beautifully meditative and creative space.
The most unexpected thing in your yoga bag?
I don’t have a yoga bag haha, but if I did, it would probably be a mate gourd and bombilla!
Describe yourself in three words!
Curious, creative, multitasker.
Favourite mantra, quote, or affirmation you live by?
“True freedom is found in honoring yourself and others with respect.”
Fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t guess?
I love trying random hobbies. I recently started playing pickleball.
Studio Connection
What do you love most about teaching at The Yoga Pantry?
It’s such a lovely community. I can’t wait to become more involved.
Favourite thing about The Yoga Pantry community?
How warm and welcoming everyone is. There’s a sense of genuine connection and support.
What makes your classes unique or special?
I hope my classes offer a deeply grounding and nourishing experience, combining mindful movement, breath, and sound healing to support relaxation and self-exploration.

Favourite yoga prop: Bolster
Favourite yoga playlist vibe: Ambient music
Tea or coffee? Mate (of course)
