Your Inner Seasons: Honouring the Natural Cycles Within

"Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit."
Henry David Thoreau

Happy Wednesday ☺️

Have you ever noticed how your energy doesn’t always match the calendar? Like how some days you wake up ready to take on the world, and others, you’d rather curl up with tea and a blanket and just be?

You’re not broken. You’re cyclical. Just like nature.

We tend to forget that we’re not machines. We’re living, breathing beings made of the same elements that govern the tides, the moon, the seasons, the soil. And just as winter gives way to spring, and summer melts into autumn, we too move through energetic phases, some expansive and buzzing, some quiet and deep.

The trouble is, modern life tends to reward the constant “go.” We’re encouraged to always be productive, always available, always chasing summer. But yoga invites us to remember: there is sacred wisdom in every season, even the slower, quieter ones.

Your Yoga Practice Knows This, Too

This is why some weeks you crave a strong, sweaty vinyasa and other times you melt into a yin pose and exhale. Why some days your balance is flawless and others you feel like a tree in a windstorm.

Yoga honours the now. It doesn’t ask, “Why aren’t you like last week?” It simply says, “Welcome back. Let’s begin here.”

Inner Season Awareness

You might be in a spring phase, planting new ideas, feeling creative and curious. Or maybe you’re in your own personal autumn, letting go, shedding what no longer fits. Perhaps you’re wintering, moving slow, conserving energy, gathering insight before blooming again.

Whichever season you’re in, trust that it’s valid. And temporary. And full of its own kind of power.

A Little Yogic Wisdom

In Ayurveda (yoga’s sister science), each season is governed by different energies (doshas, remember those, I wrote about the doshas a few weeks back), and aligning with those rhythms brings balance. We feel better when we eat, move, and live in tune with nature. And that includes honouring our own inner nature.

So this week, check in.

  • What’s the pace of your breath?
  • What kind of movement feels good right now?
  • What does your inner landscape need? - Light? Rest? Fire? Stillness?

You don’t have to be in bloom every day. Even the sun takes time to rise.

And that's also why our timetable is so varied, you can choose the practice that resonates with you the best from week to week and day to day, don't get stuck to one style, pattern or habit, allow yourself to go with the flow and follow the rhythm of your own choosing.
