The Yoga of Letting Go. Trusting the Flow (also where are my emails going?)

"Anything you can't control is teaching you how to let go."
— Jackson Kiddard

Let's see how many lucky recipients actually get this yogi note today.... yup, I'm still having trouble with my emails, they just don't seem to be getting through at all, and sometimes I don't even get your emails either agghhhhh 😬

If you are receiving this email and haven't yet done so, please put me on your list of approved senders (this article will show you how) and if you wish to unsubscribe that's cool too, just scroll down to the bottom and hit the unsub link, I'll be sad to see you go especially as you may be the only person reading this yogi note 😂

If you have been reading these Yogi Notes for a while, you'll know that one of the topics I keep coming back to is surrendering or letting go, and yes, with a new season upon us, it's a good time to let go of some things. Like me right now, letting go of the frustrations these email issues have been giving me over the past several months 😭

But it's not about me right now 😉...

Let's see what you can let go of today.

You know that moment in class when you’re clinging, just a little, to the edge of a pose? Maybe your shoulders are trying to do all the work, or your jaw is clenched without you even realising. Then, the teacher gently reminds you to soften, to breathe, to let go… and something shifts. Your body opens. Your breath deepens. And suddenly, there’s space where there was strain.

That’s the magic of surrender.

And it's not just useful in a yogasana practice, but in life. The letting go. Of outcomes. Of expectations. Of needing to have it all figured out. Because as much as we love our vision boards and goal-setting (guilty 🙋‍♀️), life often doesn’t follow our carefully laid plans. And sometimes, the more we grip, the more we suffer.

The Wisdom of Surrender

In yoga philosophy (the Niyamas), there’s a beautiful concept called Ishvara Pranidhana, often translated as “surrender to the divine.” It doesn’t mean we stop caring or give up. It means we show up, we do our part, and then… we release our attachment to how it has to unfold.

We trust the flow. We allow the universe to meet us halfway. We create space for grace to enter.

When we let go of our attachment to outcomes, we let grace in and whatever comes, we will are better able to accept and adapt, and we open ourselves up to even better outcomes than we could have anticipated because we are no longer trying to control things.

Letting Go Is a Practice

Just like balancing in tree pose or learning to breathe evenly in Nadi Shodhana, surrender takes practice. It can feel vulnerable at first, even a little frustrating, especially if you’re used to being the doer, the fixer, the one who makes it happen.

But here’s what I’ve learned on and off the mat... Letting go doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise. It’s the pause before the breakthrough. The breath before the insight. The stillness that allows something new to grow.

So if you’ve been holding on tight lately, trying to force a decision, control an outcome, or just keep it all together, maybe this week is your invitation to soften. To trust. To exhale.

On the Mat, In Your Life

When you’re next on the mat, notice where you’re gripping. In your toes, your thoughts, your breath. Try gently releasing. Not giving up, just easing up. Feel what shifts.

And then take that same awareness into your day. Where could you loosen your grip just a little?

Remember, the river flows more easily when it’s not trying to hold onto the rocks. So dismantle the dam and allow yourself to go with the flow ;)
